My experience with my little Butterflies at Baikady Tent School Project – Sophie von Rohden, Germany

My experience with my little Butterflies at Baikady Tent School Project – Sophie von Rohden, Germany

Since almost 6 months, I can’t imagine! I have been working in the Tent School Project. It has given me quite a few challenges that I had to face, but even more joyful moments and great experiences I can take with me. For me, especially the first weeks were the most difficult, because I had never taught children before, and didn’t really have a clue how to manage it, and secondly, I had to get used to the circumstances we…

All of them were placed in Karnataka state, so they spoke good Kannada from what I observed between the sessions. The program was held for 2 days, 13th and 14th February 2020. In total, 4 volunteers from AFS took part in this evaluation. The FE was organised at…

I like to see something different a lot – Amelie Hagemann, Germany

I like to see something different a lot – Amelie Hagemann, Germany

By now, I am 5 months in India. The orientation week in the beginning, at the FSL Centre, was very good to get to know some Indian habits, but in the light version. I also met some other volunteers who would work in the same area as me, so I did not feel alone at all. In my project – Regular Teaching at Moodugiliyaru School, is a second volunteer, Luise. She already was there 1 month earlier, so I immediately…

We are Jang Seeun and Daeum Kim from South Korea. We had an opportunity to visit India, especially Kundapura to do a 2-week work camp at Centre for Experiential Living – FSL India, Shettrakatte. Kundapura is a small town surrounded by the Arabian Sea and backwaters, another side is the Western Ghats and countless temples. It was a peaceful and such a spectacular spot to see! 6th to 19th January – 2 weeks, it was amazing times which we have…

We are running into our 4th year of successful hosting of international volunteers. The relationship between FSL India, our project coordinators and international volunteers has improved over innovations, mutual respect and shared responsibilities. The beauty of our project is the diversity in experiences.  After consultation, thorough inspection and careful consideration, FSL India agreed to let volunteers to stay on the project. We made sure to grab this opportunity and brought out the best in our volunteers. We are very happy…

Why I Love Volunteering – Notes from France: Puviarasan Sivarajan, Outbound volunteer

Why I Love Volunteering – Notes from France: Puviarasan Sivarajan, Outbound volunteer

Even as one half of me was struggling to describe my experience at France, my other half was constantly enjoying the memories and skimming through photos, contemplating what I have learnt and gone through those beautiful 2 weeks. France and Paris – what could one possibly think when we hear those words – love, romance, life and lifestyle. The experience at France completely filled my expectations of a developed country. But more importantly, it helped me to de-condition myself at…

5 1/2 months ago we came to India! – Lea Benz & Hannah Ahland, Germany

5 1/2 months ago we came to India! – Lea Benz & Hannah Ahland, Germany

Our journey began in a very traditional family. Our host parents, our 5 host brothers and the rest of the family made us feel at home there very quickly. Through them, we learned about Indian culture and we soon became a part of their family. During the weeks, we are working in a big animal shelter with dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, sheep, donkeys, birds and pigs. Our main tasks are horse, goat and puppy feeding, horse washing, skin care…

My Experience in India: Lina Schumann, Germany – Regular Teaching

Last April, I arrived in India and started working with FSL. In total, I’m staying for 11 months. My project is a Government Primary School at Mavinakatte, where I teach the children mainly from 1st to 5th standard. In general, I interact with the children and encourage them to speak English through language games, simple tasks, learning vocabulary, dancing and singing. I also give computer classes and training in correct spelling with the older children. In the beginning, the work…

I have had a lot of interesting experiences so far – Lena Henke, Uthavi Karam Foundation (Thulir) – Women Empowerment

Vanakkam! My name is Lena and since 6 months now, I am living as a volunteer in Pondicherry, in the state of Tamil Nadu, in a ladies hostel. After spending the first half of my 11 months volunteer service in an NGO for community development, called Thulir Uthavi Karam Foundation, I decided to spend the second half in a school for disabled people, the Sharon Special School, where I started about 2 weeks ago. I deliberately used the first half…
