My experience with my little Butterflies at Baikady Tent School Project – Sophie von Rohden, Germany
Since almost 6 months, I can’t imagine! I have been working in the Tent School Project. It has given me quite a few challenges that I had to face, but even more joyful moments and great experiences I can take with me.
For me, especially the first weeks were the most difficult, because I had never taught children before, and didn’t really have a clue how to manage it, and secondly, I had to get used to the circumstances we had to face in the tent community. Such as, the small space, the often high noise level, the varying ages in-between the group of children we had to keep attracted at the same time, as well as the teaching methods that had already been established in the Tent School.
But with the time passing on, I was getting to know the workflow and the children better, and the children got to know me, and we all got used to each other. Sharavathi, the Tent School teacher, and me also adjusted to each other and over time, we became a pretty good team.
Now, I really enjoy going to school every day, and teaching and interacting with the children.Though the progress is slow, it is still there, and Sharavathi and I are starting to see improvement in the children’s writing, reading and calculating skills, which is the best reward we could get for our work.
