Sea turtle workcamp at Kundapur-November

A work camp was held at Kundapura from 2nd to 13th  November on sea turtle conservation and agriculture . A volunteer from Taiwan and other HBP volunteers were involved in this camp.  On the first day after an Indian welcome, volunteers were given orientation about HBP projects and the work schedule for 2 weeks.

FSL-India, Kundapur conducted a drawing and sand sculpture competition  on 6th November  at  Gangolli government school related to sea turtle conservation.  Tenkanidiyoor and Barkur  MSW college students, Gangolli Bhagath Singh youth club, Ambedkar youth club also helped to organize this competition.

On November 14th FSL India Kundapura, Rukmini shedthy(?) MSW students jointly organized Children’s day at Yedthadi tent school for the tent school children. India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday is celebrated as Children’s Day every year.

Today 10th of November we celebrated the Diwali festival in the training centre. Diwali is also called the ‘Festival of Light’ and it is celebrated on New Moon night of the month of Kartika according to our Hindu calendar (in the Gregorian calendar, from  mid October to mid November)

FSL India has hosted 07 Long Term Volunteers from 5 different countries (Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, France& Korea). Volunteers have gone through different practical, theoretical and outdoor sessions to be well prepared for their successful journey in India.

The culture visit held on 15 October 2015 with Lisa Kohig, Angela and George who came in May and August 2015 and work with us in the different field like special children school, tent school & Media and PR in Kundapur .  As part of the visit we take them to a historical place which is called Sri Mandarthi Durgaparameshwari temple near Udupi. My first Indian wedding experience!!

My first Indian wedding experience!!

 It was in a hall called “Laxmi Janardhana Mini Hall” although it wasn’t “Mini” at all !! On a very sunny, very hot Sunday in Udupi. It was a wedding of my coordinator’s sister and all the volunteers got very excited when he invited us. We were looking forward to the new cultural experience as Indian weddings are much different compared to the weddings functions in Germany! Furthermore it was a good reason to get dressed up a little bit….

Trick or Treat..Halloween day!!

On 31st October, the scariest evening, Yes! Hallow evening, YDP  celebrated Halloween day with 40 YDP participants. In partnership with Lahe Lahe, a recently created expression space to promote” creativity, dance, music and art ” based on value-exchange rather than money-exchange. Lahe Lahe is an Assamese phrase, which means something like “Hacuna Matata”. .
