Our Experience at the Varanashi Farm

Our Experience at the Varanashi Farm

We, Klara, Lilja, Sophie, Fynn and Kim, spent two weeks at the Varanashi Farm during our school winter holiday, where we worked as volunteers.

We lived in a small house which is only meant for volunteers which was very cool. There were also three other German volunteers so we were a big group. We spent a lot of time together and had a great time.

Our daily routine was nearly the same every day. We woke up at 7.30 every morning and had to walk about 15 minutes to get to the food court where we had breakfast. After that we went to the main house where the owners of the farm live. They told us the task for the day. Part of the tasks were areca nut (betel nut) picking, packing bio-compost, weeding or painting names of different trees on stone plates. One of our favorite tasks was packing bio-compost even though it was very exhausting because we got to hear music together and sing along. Every day we worked till 4 p.m. including tea break and lunch break.

After work we often went to the town to buy some snacks and jumped into the pool of the farm. In the evening we had dinner together and usually watched a movie together or played some games in our small house.

We had very good experience in Varanashi farm and want to visit again. On our last day the son of the farm owners took us to the beach to take a surfing lesson which was really fun. We had a great time staying and working in the farm. The people there are very nice and we look forward to visiting the farm again.
