I came to India on the 31. of September.My first project was not working correctly so I changed and came to Hunsur in my current project and host family.

 

Here I easily got attached to my daily life routine and enjoyed my work as a teacher in the Tribal School of the Nisarga Foundation in H.D.Kote. Thanks to John, the other Volunteer in that project I could quickly find my place in the school and understood how to work there and how to handle the children.

Also my Host Family in Rathnapuri near Hunsur was very nice and accepted me from the beginning. They seemed a bit worried because I was the first female Volunteer there but we built up a good relationship and after some time we got used to each other and interacted more and more. In the first few weeks there were some misunderstandings, nothing serious, and we solved them in a good way. Right now I feel like they really care for me and I already started to feel like I became the daughter of the family. My host family have three young sons, they are 9, 7 and 2 years old. They can speak english already quite well so the communication was and is no problem at all there.

 During my time here in India I was travelling  to many different places. India is very big  and shows many different parts of itself.  What never changed was the fact, that  people will look at you because you are  white. But most of them are also very helpful  and interested in you. Sometimes you can  have a nice talk with them or even build up a  friendship like I could in my school with the teacher there and other Volunteers with people they met somewhere in their daily life here.

In India I learned some new things about myself because sometimes you are forced to do something unusual for you. For me it was speaking loudly what’s on your mind, also to be unfriendly in cases where you have to be and I gained more self-courage in myself and the things I do.

I am happy I could make this year and met all these wonderful people here.
