On the 6th of February 2014, our Home Based Project’s Tent School team took Senapur’s tent school children and their parents to the Nada Guddeangadi Primary Health Center in Kundapura for a health check-up. Two volunteers, Ms. Bona and Ms. Gabriella, joined a tent school teacher, Mrs. Geetha, and a coordinator, Ms. Manjula, to assist the children and their parents. Sea-turtle nesting relocation and hatchery management

      Twice this season (on the 30th of December, 2013 and the 13th of January 2014) turtle eggs were found in the Kundapura region. 102 turtle eggs were found in December in Marvanthe, and 81 turtle eggs were found in January in Nagoor. Sea-turtle conservation work camp in Kundapura

      In the month of January, our work camp team leader, Deepak Poojary, led a sea-turtle conservation and environment themed work camp in Kundapura. Joining the team were three international volunteers from South Korea and one national volunteer.       Their activities included an awareness raising programme on sea-turtle conservation for school children and the fishermen community, as well as building a Turtle Information Centre.         On the 27th of November, 2013, our Home Based Project’s Tent School team, along with two volunteers, Katharina and Amanda, went to Senapur, in Kundapura planted a kitchen garden for seven migrant families. In the year 2011-12, nearly 720 hatchlings* of the Olive Ridley sea turtle were released through sea turtle conservation initiatives mobilized by FSL India. The Power of Volunteering

It is said actions speak louder than words.  On September 21, the joint endeavors of close to 600 local and international volunteers lay testament to this old adage. We came together to be a part of the world’s largest volunteering initiative to clean up waterways and the ocean: the International Coastal Cleanup. Our concerted efforts resulted in 11 tons of trash being collected in 1 day over 26 km of Karnataka’s coastline*.
