Volunteering at Annapradokshana Charitable Trust, Pondicherry – Felix Aufderheide, Germany

I’m Felix, a volunteer of FSL-India at Annapradokshana Charitable Trust, an NGO in Pondicherry on the East Coast. I’m been working and living for 3 months in this city, so I saw a lot of the people, the city and my project.

I came as the first volunteer for Annapradokshana, so it was not easy in the beginning, but all in all, I feel very comfortable now. In the last weeks, I worked mainly for marketing and to get support for the project, because we have a lack of money. This work includes writing texts for our website, writing applications to get support from bigger NGOs etc.

Due to the computer work, I’m driving a lot with Thirumurugan and his motorcycle in Pondicherry to meet someone, or to collect donation boxes.

Furthermore, we collect surplus food from functions to give it to the hungry. The biggest project (tree plantation at the roadside of the highway to Tindivanam) stagnates at the moment due to the lack of money.

I have my own room, where I can sleep, cook, eat… My room is really nice and I feel at home at this place. I have also the opportunity to cook sometimes typical German food like Bratkartoffeln (German potato fries) or Rührei (scrambled eggs).

Pondicherry itself is a beautiful town with a beach, a lot of good restaurants and the old French white town. With the other volunteers, I explored a lot of the town, for example, we went to the lighthouse where we had an amazing view of Pondicherry. For traveling we mostly use buses.
