Maravanthe: Babies out of the eggs before their time.

Kundapura: A month ago, in Kanchugodu, near Sanyasibele beach, close to Maravanthe, 101 sea turtle eggs were found.

On Wednesday, baby turtles emerged from the eggs, this made the locals very surprised and happy, because of the unexpected date of emerging.

Conservation: The Olive Ridley and the Green Sea Turtles are 2 of the species existing in the ocean. They lay their eggs on beaches in the month of March.

On 19th March 2019, 101 eggs were found. The active local people informed FSL-India’s staff members, who helped to build the hatchery, with the guidance of the Forest Department. The eggs were being taken care of by local people.

FSL-India’s Program Manager Venkatesh Moodgeri and Manjunath B, with the support of locals Damu, Ganapathi Kharvi, Raghavendra, Sada Shiva, Sathish Sheker Kharvi, Sharath, Vinod, Manju, Aneesh, Amish and others helped to conserve the sea turtles’ eggs.

FSL-India volunteers say: “For the development of the eggs, normally, it takes 52 days, but here, it took only 46 days. So, it made us very surprised and all the babies are safe and healthy.

From the afternoon onwards, the babies started emerging from the eggs, at one moment, 26 babies came out. Most of the time, during the night, when the sea calms down, at that time the babies can be released into the ocean. All the babies are healthy. We are releasing the babies with the cooperation of the Forest Department.”

Found Nest After 2 Years: FSL-India has been conserving Olive Sea and Green Turtles for more than 10 years. Since the last 2 years, on Kundapura coast, the sea turtles’ nesting process has not happened. But, at this time it’s happening. The babies who emerged after 46 days are showing their excitement to jump into the ocean! This process will happen during the moonlight.
