Trapped Sea Turtle was Rescued!

Launched in 2005, Sea Turtle Conservation Project in Kundapur is one of the most successful programs of FSL India. It is a self-funded home based project which is undertaken in collaboration with Forest and Wildlife Department of Karnataka state. The primary objective of this project is to undertake survey of Sea Turtles in this area, protect their eggs and mitigate threats to their survival. It has been observed that many a times Sea Turtles become the victims of natural and human made catastrophes.

On 19th of April 2012, the HBP team of FSL India found one Sea Turtle trapped at Shiroor near Kundapura costal area, under Udupi District. Having received the information from the local contact person, HBP team of FSL India along with the international volunteers and local school children rushed the spot on a rescue operation. Having reached the spot the rescue team found that the Sea Turtle was perfectly in good condition. At once the team released the Sea Turtle to sea which is the natural abode.  The team further motivated local people and sought their cooperation for Sea Turtle conservation. In this year this was the first trapped sea-turtle that was rescued by HBP team of FSL India.
