FSL-India’s work camp WC-827 was held for 2 weeks, starting from 21st January 2019 and ending with the final evaluation on 3rd February 2019. The theme was Sustainable Agriculture/ Culture/ Environment. The team consisted of Andrea Granata from Italy, Seoyeon Kim and Jeon Hui Yeon from South Korea. Mostly, once a week we, from the Sea Turtle Conservation program (STC), drive to one of the fisherman community’s here in the area of Kundapur. Meeting the fishermen is one of the most interesting tasks in our voluntary work. There we have the opportunity to talk with the fishermen about different problems e.g.the waste problem or overfishing that affect the fishermen as well as the sea turtles. July GTG

         On the 17th and 18th of July, a monthly get-together (GTG) took place in Yercaud, Tamil Nadu. Eight volunteers and four FSL-India staff members attended this GTG.             Participants visited Mundakabati village and planted saplings in a playground. They also interacted with the inhabitants. Volunteers also had a chance to have one-on-one talks with their coordinators.

Sea-turtle rescue operation

      Sea-turtles are sporadic creatures and are considered to be an endangered species. In the west coast of Karnataka, on the shores of Kundapura and Byndoor, seven wounded sea-turtles were found. Injuries are caused by the rough waves of the monsoon season and getting trapped in fishing nets.       Upon finding the wounded sea-turtles, local fisherman immediately called up FSL-India’s Home Based Project (HBP) team members.      On the 10th of June, 2014, the Home Based Project (HBP) team carried out an appropriate technologies demonstration in Senapur and Marvante (Kundapura). 23 children gathered for the demonstration.This activity was inspired by a demonstration that previously took place in our HYSCO camp in Tamil Nadu.
