Summer Camp at FSL-India’s CEL

Summer Camp at FSL-India’s CEL

From 11th to 13th of April, FSL-India’s staff and volunteers conducted a summer camp at our Centre for Experiential Living, Shettrakatte with the support of the Social Work students from Milagres College, Kallianpur.

On 11th April morning, FSL-India’s staff welcomed around 80 kids of different ages, and in the circle everybody played fun energiser games and shared their names with the group: a nice atmosphere was created.

On the first day, the children got to explore all the projects run by FSL-India. Here, they discovered more about pest control, the effects on people and environment, an insect’s life cycle, as well as the natural alternatives people can use in agriculture. They also learned about the sea turtle’s life and the current actions connected to the ocean pollution. It was very interesting for them, as they had the chance to fulfil their curiosity.

Next, the children participated in the topic of ‘Equality’. Also, an ‘Equal Society’ performance was carried out by them in groups: creative and impressive dramas were shown on the stage.

Secondly, FSL-India’s staff shared with the children some plastic crafts: the irrigation bottle, the sea turtle and jellyfish creations from which they could get some inspirations. The day after, many of them came with more plastic craft ideas, e.g. flowers, flowerpots and pen holders. Each of them could present to the group their design and everybody discovered wonderful and new ways to reuse plastic bottles.

On the third day, FSL-India’s staff organised some fun group activities. The children played in the water, they participated in a huge garbage collection race and they took part in a quiz, where finally everybody got tasty chocolate candies.

The students had also some individual time for writing a letter to someone special, as well as making a bracelet for an unknown person.

Everybody enjoyed the experience, the food and the location a lot. Each of the students received the Certificate of Participation in the summer camp and a cotton bag from FSL-India.

Finally, each of them got a leaf where they could express their opinions and feelings about their experience of the summer camp: a colourful tree appeared.

It was really a wonderful time for the children, as well as for the FSL-India team in planning the schedule, the materials and also collaborating together: it was a grand success!

Special thanks to “Recogida De Fondues for India” who decided to sponsor the Summer Camp. FSL-India looks forward to receive more support from you, for our upcoming activities.
