In November 1997, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers (IYV). United Nations Volunteers (UNV) was designated as the international focal point. In the month of June, FSL hosted 4 work camps in different parts of India. Three of the work camps were in South India: – Kundapur, Kannur and Mysore. One was in Dharamsala in North India. Twenty one volunteers from eleven different countries took part in these work camps. In Kundapur, 3 volunteers worked for 2 weeks in the school. FSL hosted two work camps in April: Bangalore and Yercaud in the South of India. In Bangalore, 11 volunteers from 4 different countries took part in the work camp. They taught the children games and English. FSL hosted two work camps in March: Dharamsala in the north and Goa in the south of India. In Goa, 16 volunteers from 8 different countries took part in the work camp. Formation of VDC (Village Development Committee) Out of the 8 villages in the Model Village Project (MVP), Irungatukottai village will be the first where the development activities will be initiated. The “Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers” Camp is a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative sponsored by HMC Korea (Hyundai Motor Company) and supported by FSL-India (Field Services and Intercultural Learning) and, IWO Korea (International Workcamp Organization.
