During the month of January 2014, two of our work camp team leaders; Sandesh and Vinoth, led an organic farming and environment themed work camp in Pondicherry. Attending this work camp were five volunteers from three different countries; the Netherlands, South Korea and India.

       

 

    The work camp participants collaborated with the Center for Environment and Agricultural Development (CEAD) in a vermicompost activity during which the volunteers learned about vermiflitration, vermiwash and the process of vermicompost. In working with the local community, the two sides shared and exchanged their cultural practices and values.

       

 

 

 

 

 

    In addition, because the volunteers were in Pondicherry during an important harvest festival celebrated in South India called Pongal, they had the opportunity to take part in the celebrations with members of an old-age home. They also had a chance to visit the beach, and watch a Tollywood (Tamil Nadu’s film industry) film at a cinema.
