Nursery Management Training for FSL- staff
On Tuesday, 20th June, at FSL- CEL, Kundapur the entire staff and volunteers, i.e 12 members participated in the Nursery Management training, conducted by Mr. Doreswamy, Joint Director of FSL-India.
In this training, the participants gained the knowledge of nursery maintenance, as well as the methods that need to be followed to implement the nursery at FSL-CEL and local community level.
Why is a nursery important?
A nursery is a prerequisite to successful reforestation programmes. Most of the plants can be easily multiplied by seeds; however, in natural surroundings, the seeds of very few trees germinate easily. This is mainly due to the lack of a favorable environment for germination. Therefore, it is necessary to create a suitable environment for growing seedlings through planned nursery activity and creating awareness among the community to adopt plant nursery activities in their daily life.
The nursery operations must be planned in such a way that plants of suitable size are raised by the onset of the monsoons.
Practically, the team was involved in nursery activities, such as making nursery beds, filtering soil, sand and compost, filling and seeding the seedling bags and finally, Â arranging the bags in the nursery.
It was a very fruitful training on plant nursery for all the staff and volunteers. The team is looking forward to more training!
