Arrival month: August 2014 for 11 Months.  Project: CSI Boys Boarding home & Orphanage, Puttur.

The C.S.I. Boys’ Boarding Home is a hostel for poor-background boys who often have no or only meager access to proper school education at their homes. The target of hosting those boys is to allow them to go to school regularly and to take the pressure of their parents. The hostel was built up by the Church of South India together with supporters from Germany in 1961 and accommodates 48 boys in age of 8 up to 18.

The main task of volunteers in this project is to spend time with the boys, to start activities, to do sports, to entertain, to converse, to look after the smaller boys, be a housekeeper and replace the non-existing caretaker. As a volunteer in this project you can expect to visit several functions, programs (e.g. of the Rotary and Interact Club) and to be asked to represent your home country on stage. Beside the work in the Boarding Home volunteers have the opportunity to visit the neighboring Primary School as often as volunteer wants so that you can try yourself as a teacher also.

Still volunteer’s prime project is the Boarding Home where volunteers have all liberties to do what they want to do. This requires a lot of flexibility from volunteer, but on the other hand it enables him to get self fulfilment while doing activities, which can extremely increase the value of work.

There are no borders for volunteer’s plans. For example he can give English tuition in evening, support Cooking-Auntie in kitchen, do gardening work, teach songs to children, administrate games – for example card games – and give them to children, escort children to doctor and administrate their medicine and start programs for the boys at some time. For example volunteer can organize a talent show or a game competition. Moreover you as a volunteer can realize all yourother ideas – be it a biogas engine, a computer room or keeping of animals…
