LTV Get Together – May 2013

May GTG 2The Get together (GTG) for Bangalore and Kundapur region volunteers was conducted together on the 23rd and 24thof May at Yercaud, a hill station in Salem District of Tamil Nadu, a popular summer tourist destination often referred to as the Jewel of the South.

A 5 staff of FSL India and 9 International volunteers participated in this GTG. The main objectives of this GTG was – to give a platform to the volunteers to share their experiences in the project and share result in a group, participate in different activities during the GTG, find a solution to their problems, one to one talk with coordinators, to generate enough motivation to continue their work.

May GTG 1To conduct an awareness campaign with the local Rotary, the volunteers, staffs of FSL India and members of the Rotary cleaned the village by picking plastic, paper, glass and other environmental hazardous waste and had an interactive group discussion with the villagers about how to keep their village clean and avoid mosquito breeding in their village. The event was very successful and the villagers were very motivated to continue the work.

After the tiring task of cleaning the village, the volunteers and the staffs went to the sunset point and though they missed the sunset by a few seconds, the scenic view of the mountains made up for it. They even saw a few wild Bison’s grazing happily in the fields.

After a lot of fun, games and energizers, the GTG came to an end with the usual one to one talk session between volunteers and their respective coordinators. The volunteers also shared their feedback about overall GTG and the location, which was indeed an exceptional one.
