Marielle’s valuable service at our Home – Stephen Raj, Project Head, Baby’s Sarah’s Home, Pondicherry

Ms Marielle Risson, FSL-India’s volunteer fṛom France helped us at Baby Sarah’s Home (a residential home for persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Multiple disabilities and Orphan children) for a period of 3 months, from 11th April 2019 to 27th June 2019.

Marielle provided her valuable service at our Home for the orphan and destitute, children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities by teaching, assisting at the special school, and training our students in various games and recreational activities. She involved herself in the daily routine activities of our home and in various recreational activities for the disabled and orphan children.

FSL-India’s volunteer initiated and completed an 8 path Sensory Integration Park for the welfare of our children with special needs at Sarah’s Special School, initiated a Sensory Integration Park at Baby Sarah’s Home and initiated an Inclusive Planting Project at Veerampatinam Beach, where nearly 40 saplings were planted. She involved and trained children with special needs in watering and protecting these saplings. She assisted in taking Kavithai Sathya and Saranya Devi from the Girls Home and Marudhu, Vincent and Mukesh from the Boys Home to Sarah’s Special School.

Marielle implemented the skill of art and drawing to bring changes in some of our special needs children, assisted our Special Educators by taking our children to the beach, walking and other outdoor activities and worked for the welfare of our disabled children. She helped us a lot in the functioning of the Speech Pathology Department, the functioning of our Physiotherapy Unit, provided focused attention to Loyala Raj, an autistic child and Kavithai Sathya, a Cerebral Palsy adult. She helped to carry beach sand and other materials from nearby places for the Sensory Integration Park.

Marielle truly contributed a lot to the fulfillment of the basic needs of all our children which helped us to function more professionally and purposefully. She helped some of our dependent children to eat food, wash their hands and plates and also changed their clothes. She involved our children with special needs in sports and painting activities and also provided a few valuable suggestions for the better functioning of Baby Sarah’s Home and future volunteers from FSL-India.
