Two weeks ago we traveled to our beloved village Kirehalli in Hassan District. Although we only lived there for four weeks, it felt like coming home after a long time for us. Everybody was happy to see us and so were we. With the two other volunteers we lived with, we spent the time with our family and many other people of the village. Because the weather was cold and rainy, we spent most of our time in the kitchen room, playing cards, the guitar, or just talking.

Also we had the possibility to help our host mother in the kitchen and so we were able to learn how to make chappatis and some delicious Diwali snacks. Something very special for us was Thursday evening of Diwali, when the whole village celebrated the festival with fireworks and firecrackers and also oil lamps that decorated every house. Because of the cold weather and all the lights the atmosphere was pretty special.

On Diwali evening every family prepared an extraordinary dinner and big God`s tables with fruits, sweets, flowers and other special items which were immolated. Also here everything was lit up very nicely. Part of the ceremony was that the family members did a “Pooja” with incense sticks and a small bell.

We celebrated this special night in three different houses, which is why we were very satisfied and happy at the end of the night.With great memories and unforgettable moments we all went to sleep.
