In March 2016, Sengadu panchayat village of Sri perumbudur block, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu- benefitted with 10 Toilets promotion through AT & D (Appropriate Technology and Development) project as Hyundai Steel CSR activity.

In Sengadu village, for most of the people Open defecation is the practice and not into a designated toilet, because of lack in resource due to poverty. A preference for open defecation behavior may be due to traditional cultural practices or lack of access to toilets, or both.Volunteer-IndiaThrough Baseline analysis it was observed that 42% of women include children affected with public health problems. The main reason behind that is people are defecating in fields, path ways, rivers and open trenches in close proximity to the living space of others.

As an Intervention the 10 economically poor background families were benefitted. The family was identified through criteria- Adolescent girls, Physically Disabled, Widows and Destitute.
