Kundapur workcamp-December

Sea turtle conservation and Sustainable agriculture work camp held at Kundapura from 7th to 18th December. Volunteer from South Korea , 2 YDP volunteers and HBP volunteers participated in this work camp. After the orientation about projects volunteers and staff visited Kundapura city and Gangolli harbor for Chennai drive and collected money, materials from the community people to help Chennai victims. Volunteers felt very happy about this Nobel work.

Yesterday, Monday December 21st SAP-K volunteers and staff visited tent school in order to create a kitchen garden for the tent community living in Yethadi. We also counted on YDP- Bangalore volunteers who have been taking part in SAP-K activities for the last few days.

We are happy to communicate you all that we have already ready the first organic Vermicompost in our training center in Kundapur. It has been a long time but, after facing different challenges and overcoming them, the first sample is ready to be used to powerfully fertilize our plants and trees.Remember this fertilizer is made out of dry leaves, soil, cow dung and kitchen waste.

Unfortunately, as many of you might have already heard, Chennai (located on the Southeast coast of India) has been devastated by El Nino, weather condition recognized by heavy rains. Around 300 deaths, streets full of water, schools shut down, lack of food, medicines and drinking water and thousands of evacuated people is the current situation in the area. On December 5th 2015, HBP staff and volunteers along with other training centre staff members went to Gulwadi (small village next to ours) to learn how plastic waste is segregated in around our training centre area. It was very interesting to see how, here in India, waste management happens. Tent Excursion-December, 2015

On 4th December – 2015 FSL-India’s Tent school team organized an excursion trip for Yedthadi tent school children to Uppinkote Island, which is located 10 km away from Brahmavar. A total of 14 children participated in the excursion. On 21st of  November  Saturday, 2015, the FSL-India HBP team had an opportunity to participate in the Flora & Fauna  annual conference. We presented a skit about “Bird Conservation” at Hotel Hariprasad’s Akshata Hall. The skit was presented by International volunteers and staff of  FSL India (Home based project).

FSL-India, Kundapur conducted a drawing and sand sculpture competition  on 6th November  at  Gangolli government school related to sea turtle conservation.  Tenkanidiyoor and Barkur  MSW college students, Gangolli Bhagath Singh youth club, Ambedkar youth club also helped to organize this competition.
