Activities at Dharamkot and Dharamshala Schools
The theme of the work camp was Construction/Environment/Tibetan Culture/Kids. There were totally 9 volunteers from the Czech Republic, 3 French, 1 German, 1 Italian and 1 Mexican.
The main objective was to give exposure to school activities, Tibetan culture, renovation of the school floor and educational drawings at Primary School, Dharamkot and Heeru School, Dharamshala. Meanwhile, the volunteers learned about Tibetan culture, activities for kids and some aspects of floor re-construction, along with educational drawings and other cultural facets of India. They also participated in activities at the school using plastic and educational drawings.
On the first day, the volunteers attended the orientation and had a general idea about their camp and the Indian environment. The camp leader Dinesha briefed them about the program schedule of the camp. During the first 2 days, the volunteers indulged in many activities at the school, renovation work and Tibetan culture. At the school, the volunteers did educational drawings based on the school text books.
During Work:
The volunteers conducted a drawing competition and games for the school children and distributed prizes for the same.
They collaborated with Waste Warriors organization for the ‘Clean-up Bhagsu Waterfalls and Trails’ clean-up project and awareness program. Through cultural visits like Tibetan community visit, Indian family visit, the volunteers came to know about the Tibetan lifestyle in India, the Indian family system and gained exposure on Tibetan and Indian culture. The FSL-India team conducted activities in schools for totally 14 children, 2 school staff, the local people of Dharamkot school and 52 children, 4 staff at Heeru School and SCDC member. All were greatly benefited from the Work Camp.
