We brought a unique motivation to the community – Volunteers of FSL-India’s WC 839, The Great Himalayan National Park

We were fortunate to participate in UNESCO’s World Heritage workcamp at the Great Himalayan National Park for the duration of 2 weeks, from 12th-25th August 2019. During this program, we had a wonderful experience to bring awareness on Natural Heritage Management among the community and the schoolchildren. We helped to organise various activities such as tree plantation, mural painting and conducted a presentation on biodiversity conservation.

Our main aim was to bring unique motivation among the community and schoolchildren through the above mentioned activities; however we played an important role during this world heritage camp. We visited universities, schools and villages nearby the Great Himalayan National Park, to spread awareness on the same, and it went really well, with a very positive response.

Firstly, we visited the Great Himalayan National Park, and we met the forest officials to study and understand about the biodiversity forest. We came up with new, attractive ideas where we can bring changes in the community, schoolchildren and college students. So, we involved them through tree plantation, mural painting, working in the nursery and a presentation on bio-diversity conservation and this was done successfully.

During this program, we have involved around 80 village people, 80 college students and around 600 schoolchildren, and we have planted around 120 trees in the nearby villages of the Great Himalayan National Park.

Overall, this camp has given a lot of experience to serve as volunteers and to understand about the Great Himalayan National Park, local culture and lifestyle.
