Testimonial for the Volunteering Practice done by Ms Leonie Weiler – J Stephenraj – Director, Baby Sarah’s Home, Pondicherry

Baby Sarah’s Home, a residential home for persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Multiple disabilities and Orphan children is highly pleased to record this testimonial for the Volunteering Practice done by Ms Leonie Weiler from Germany, for a period of 12 months, from 8th August 2018 to 18th August 2019, through FSL India, Bangalore.

Ms Leonie Weiler provided her valuable service at our home for the orphan and destitute, children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities by teaching. She assisted at our Special School, trained our students in various games and recreational activities, was involved in the daily routine activities of our home, and in various recreational activities for the disabled and orphan children.

She initiated and completed an 8 path Sensory Integration Park for the welfare of our children with Special Needs at our Sarah’s Special School, and initiated a Sensory Integration Park (using beach sand) at Baby Sarah’s Home. She initiated an ‘Inclusive Planting’ project at Veerampatinam Beach, where 40 saplings were planted. She played a major role in our ‘Inclusive Planting’ event at a Teacher Training Institute, where 30 saplings were planted. She helped to make success stories of beneficiaries supported by Baby Sarah’s Home in the past, assisted us a lot in talking our children with Special Needs to the hospital during emergencies, and for follow ups. She was involved and trained children with Special Needs in watering and protecting planted saplings. She assisted in taking our children Kavithai Sathya and Saranya Devi from our Girls’ Home to Sarah’s Special School.

She assisted in taking our Marudhu, Vincent and Mukesh from our Boys’ Home to Sarah’s Special School. She implemented the skill of art and drawing to bring changes in some of our Special Needs children. She assisted our Special Educators by taking our children to the beach, walking and other outdoor activities and worked for the welfare of our disabled children. She helped us a lot in the functioning of the Speech Pathology Department, and the Physiotherapy Unit. She provided focused attention to our Loyala Raj, an autistic child, and our Kavithai Sathya, a Cerebral Palsy adult. She helped us a lot in taking beach sand and other materials from nearby places for the Sensory Integration Park.

She has contributed a lot to the fulfillment of the basic needs of all our children, which helped us to function more professionally and purposefully. She helped some of our dependent children to eat food, wash their hands, wash their plates and change their clothes. She involved our children with Special Needs in sports and painting activities, and provided some valuable suggestions for the better functioning of Baby Sarah’s Home and future volunteers. She assisted us a lot in taking our children to the beach and movies. She assisted us in painting our Home for Girls, and helped our Kavithai Sathya to have her own Library at Sarah’s Special School.
