They are not from India but they came with purpose. They decided to live and work for long time in India. Language is one the basic barrier to communicate with local people so I am here to teach Kannada.

My Name is Anusha Adiga, 21 year old and I am working in a NGO. My home is near to FSL-India’s Centre for Experiential Living and I am teaching Kannada for 8 volunteers from Germany.   

This is first time that I am teaching Kannada for foreign people and I was bit afraid mainly because of different accent. I also had question in my mind that how can I make them to understand Kannada with proper accent meaning and pronunciation. Finally I agreed to teach Kannada and I am satisfied with my work.

As I started to teach, I realise that their pronunciation was really good and they already learnt introducing self in Kannada. I see that they are dedicated and motivated to learn Kannada.

I believe “A new language is a new life”. In a few days they become very close with the local lifestyle. The volunteers learnt useful daily life phrases and words like saku, beku, hogi banni, etc. These volunteers are working in different projects like regular teaching, sustainable agriculture and environment projects. They work with local community where they need Kannada to explain their work and also have communication with their host families. I also do translate what they want to say in their working community. They practice each day and use them outside.

I feel proud myself because I am teaching my mother lounge to someone who truly interested. This experience is like “learning by teaching”. I am also learning many things from them.
