Teaching English at Government Higher Primary School, Heskathuru – Beatrix Roessger, Germany

Hello everyone. My name is Trixi and I am from Germany. I came to India to offer my services as a Long Term Volunteer through FSL-India. During the year 2018/2019, I am working at Heskathuru’s Government Higher Primary School as an English teacher, for 4th-7th standards.

It is a great school, where the children get highly supported and there are also many opportunities for them to be creative and to participate in different kinds of events. The children seem to be very happy in their environment. They are always laughing and playing but also respectful when they are talking to their teachers. They are very motivated and friendly people who give their best every day, in order to educate the children properly.

The teachers are also supporting me a lot. I can always ask them for help if I do not understand what I am supposed to do, or if it is just a little bit messy during the lesson. My Contact Person said right at the beginning of my stay that they would be all just like friends. And in my opinion, she was completely right. We work in a good atmosphere, so I feel very welcome in my project.

I am staying with a host family in the same village I am working. So, I am living with 4 family members. Those are my host parents, my host brother and my host sister who are younger than me. I have my own room, which is really great and after some time, I was even allowed to go for a run in the morning.

The food is very delicious, I just have to get used to eating dinner so late in the evening. Even though that there are some things I still have to get used to while living in another country, I feel as if I arrived now, somehow and I am excited for the next 6 months.
