Self-Help Group Training at CEL

Self-Help Group Training at CEL

On Friday 1st September, in Kundapura FSL India- CEL, staff, interns from Delhi, MSW students and volunteers, totally 20 members participated in SHG training, conducted by Mr. Doreswamy, Joint Director of FSL-India.

In this training, we gained the knowledge of formation and running of SHG and how it is useful for the community.

What is SHG?

SHG is a group of around 10 to 20 people who come together to save regular small sums of money which can be used in future in emergency. A SHG can be registered/ official (more than 20 members) or unregistered/ informal. Basically SHG’s are started by the non-government organisations (NGOs). Self-help groups are seen as a women empowerment tool.

How a SHG works

Many self-help groups, especially in India, borrow money from banks once they have gained their own economic goal and managed to record regular repayments.

It was very fruitful training on SHG for all staff and volunteers.

Every month we have such types of training which is so helpful for the staff and other volunteers, students and interns. We are looking forwards to such types of trainings for the empowerment and growth of all CEL members.
