Our Young Volunteer – Marie Cäecilie Schmidt, Regular Teaching Project: S Sudha, Teacher, Panchayat Union Primary School, Chettipedu

I am S Sudha, a teacher at Panchayat Union Primary School, Chettipedu. My School headmistress’ name is Mrs Regina Mary. Since there were only 2 teachers in our school, our headmistress invited a volunteer to our school.

Our volunteer’s name is Cäecilie, who is from Germany. She arrived at our school in November 2018. My outlook on the German people was they were enormously nice, too. At the beginning, there was difficulty in communication for her with our children. A different language is a different vision of life, in my opinion.

Then, for the past 6 months, all our communication revealed that kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. She often praised us. Our interest was again aroused by her remarkable demeanor. Yes, she proved that there is no age bar to help others.

She showed great concern for our children and she started to make furniture (table and chairs) of her own for our school. The help she gave to the children made a great difference in our school. This concern shows that charity sees the need, not the cause. After her arrival at our school, there was good progress in the communication skills in English, among the children.

She used to play like a child with our students and taught them the art of Origami. She participated in Republic Day and Pongal celebrations which were held in at our school. She also accompanied us on the school’s educational tour. She used to play like a child with our students and taught them the art of Origami. Cäecilie was as lively as a squirrel, her smile was engaging, which reflected on the faces of our children. Time flies over us when she is with us, but it doesn’t just fly, it leaves its shadow behind. I mean that the past 6 months’ time runs out, but memories last forever.

Finally, one of her greatest attributes was her time management. She just came as a volunteer to our school, but her valuable presence in our school made a drastic change within us.

I hope that the sincere and selfless contribution of Cäecilie will make her to experience true fulfillment and deepest joy in her life. Definitely, it’s my please to thank FSL-India and our school’s headmistress for giving me the opportunity to write about our young volunteer-cum-contributor Cäecilie.
