One week in PFA Mysore
We went to Mysore to volunteer at People for Animals, a shelter for every kind of homeless animal sick or healthy. At PFA there is always some work, because they take care of so many animals.
In the area they have a vet’s office, so people are coming and going with their pets all the time. But the main focus is on the stray animals, if somebody brings a stray to them, they care for them for free and take them in. I saw so many different animals, from usual shelter inhabitants like dogs and cats, to donkeys, horses, even eagles and monkeys.
The whole place is wonderful, and you can see how the people do their best for every animal. To experience such an organization was so interesting, because it’s so impressive how they work there and that such a place exists. In the week of work, we were most of the time with the Puppies and Kittens to feed and observe them. Some of them are really weak and they need medicinal treatment (what they can get at PFA all the time). It was so cute to work with them and what surprised me a lot is that almost all of the animals are so nice. In German Shelters most of the time you find very shy or unfriendly animals, but there it was completely different.
All the animals were well behaved and really open to new people playing with them or feeding them. Overall, my experience was truly wonderful there and I wished I could have worked there for some more time. But we needed also to be prepared for the death you see there. Many animals from the streets are very sick and weak and you can’t do enough for them. Sometimes you see animals die or you see heavily wounded animals. India sadly has so many strays in the street that we can’t help everyone. But PFA is an organization that gives all they can, to do as much as possible. I think they are doing great and are helping a lot of animals but also many people who want to help but can’t do it alone.
Everyone who is interested in helping can join PFA. They take everyone in who wants to help and has a heart for animals. It’s a great opportunity for people and of course for every animal who has the luck to get help from them. I loved to be part of this even if it was just for one week.
