My Journey working as a Student Educator under FSL India

Greetings! My name is Sreya Das and I am currently pursuing my Master’s of Science in Psychology, specializing in Human Resource Development and Management from CHRIST (Deemed to be) University. Today, I want to share my incredible journey of volunteering under FSL India as a student educator. My mission was to uplift these young minds and promote youth development by enriching their lives with essential skills and knowledge. My passion for this cause ignited during my time as a teaching volunteer, where I witnessed the challenges, these underprivileged children faced daily. The lack of access to basic skills and knowledge, such as spoken English or proper hygiene practices, was striking. I realized the gaping disparities in opportunities driven by socioeconomic backgrounds.

Moreover, my involvement with FSL India opened my eyes to the broader challenges facing youth and community development. Through conversations with teachers and school administrators, I learned about the educational hurdles these children faced. They lacked exposure to a range of subjects and essential life skills necessary for their personal growth and development.

In my role as a teaching volunteer, I crafted a comprehensive curriculum to guide my teaching journey. The focus was on teaching spoken English and integrating life skills and effective waste management. For instance, I planned to teach students about waste segregation using content from the ‘Wonderful Waste’ chapter, which would enable them to understand these concepts practically. This approach aimed to engage, educate, and empower. My journey as a teaching volunteer had not only allowed me to make a meaningful contribution but had also broadened my perspective on life. It had heightened my sense of empathy and social responsibility, making me appreciate the importance of bridging gaps and lending a compassionate hand to those in need. Professionally, it had sharpened my problem-solving skills and interpersonal abilities, paving way for valuable connections and networking opportunities. I firmly believed that small contributions could lead to significant changes.

By imparting valuable skills and knowledge, we could inspire these young souls to dream big and strive for a better future. Supporting underprivileged youth was like planting the seeds of positive change within our communities. My journey had reinforced my faith in the power of volunteering to transform lives, proving that providing resources, guidance, and opportunities could empower these children to overcome their struggles and contribute meaningfully to society.
