Hello, my name is Luise and I am from Germany. The last three month I had the chance to work with FSL India. My project is an Orphanage near Mangalore and I am staying here with another volunteer from Germany, Pauline.

Even though in the beginning everything felt a bit overwhelming for me now I like the work very much. Especially the children at my project are wonderful and I really love to spend time with them. As I am not really good in speaking Kannada we developed something like an English-Kannada-Mix to communicate and we understand each other nearly all the time. I am already afraid of the moment I will have to say good bye to them but luckily there are still another eight month for me at this place.

Also I am enjoying Indian culture a lot. I think Mangalore is a great city even if it’s not that touristic and I am getting to know a lot of places here. Also the food is amazing and I hope that in the end of my year here I am able to name all the different foods like actually saying “Biryani” instead of “yellow rice with vegetables”… I think the last three month was quite challenging for me but I am sure that it is absolutely worth it!
