“India – Multiple Ethnicities (Dis)order” – Non-formal education ICL module Session 2

“India – Multiple Ethnicities (Dis)order” – Non-formal education ICL module Session 2

On the 11th of January, the Youth Development Programme (YDP) of FSL-India hosted the second part of its three-part non-formal educational series on culture at our head office in Bangalore, Karnataka.

Being in a country that consists of paradoxes, both ends of any extreme, contrast and differences, the YDP realised the significance of exploring this further. Shalini Menon (founder of Educators Collective and facilitator of the session) joined us again, along with Shreya Talwar (YDP), to present participants with an opportunity to take a closer look at various different diversities and realities that exist within India. This was explored using experiential learning techniques, such as having conversations with complete strangers, and more.

All together, 18 participants from different backgrounds, attended this session. This time, our participant pool was a mixture of university students, young professionals and FSL-India staff. This provided for a good range of diversities that fit well with the theme of the workshop.

This Saturday (18th January) the YDP will be hosting its final non-formal education session on culture at CubbonPark. This time, we’ll be going beyond the boundaries of India and looking at world cultures and the importance of cultural relativity in our globalised world. Below is a link to the Facebook event page:

After going out and striking up conversations with strangers, participants were asked to make short presentations on the insights they gained.

The Amoeba activity asked participants to find a way to fit all 18 of them into a deflated tyre – a metaphor for making space for everyone in the world. After much trial-and-error, they found a way!

See you soon for the last part of the Module !!
