Health & Hygiene session with school children in our training centre!- December

Last Tuesday, December 22nd 2015, around 50 children from Mavinakatte Primary School came to our training centre in Shetrakatte for a session on Health and Hygiene. The session took 3 hours in the morning and we developed many different activities in this short time regarding health and hygiene and environment.

First of all, we put into practice some Play for Peace activities in order to make the kids relax and feel comfortable within the group. We think some energizers or ice-breakers before every activity will help the children to retain more information and benefit their leaning process and also to feel more free to participate. Afterwards we gave a presentation about health and hygiene and sexual abuse cases in which the children participated and maintained discussion with us. We talked about examples from our daily life and how to protect our health from sicknesses and other health issues. We also discussed about the role of the kids in society regarding all these issues.

After a shortbreak and another Play for Peace activity we had a tour all over our training centre showing them thedifferent plants and work we carry out here (nursery, compost tank, SAP-K area, etc). Then, we divided the kids in smaller groups and did a nice activity in which they have to collect materials from nature and make a collage out of them. When this activity was over, we closed the session with the children expressing their feelings towards these activities.

We are looking forward to a new session like this where school children can learn so positive values. The principal of the school is also happy to collaborate with FSL India- Kundapur in order to turn his school in an eco-friendly and sustainable one so we are already working on it. FSL India Kundapur staff members and volunteers are extremely happy to serve the community with activities like this, educating children for a better and healthier future.
