Experience in India!! – Katharina

To put my two month experience in India in one blog article is a hard thing to do. Since I arrived my life is reversed. If I want to cross a road, I don’t look left, right, left, but right, left, right. A shaking head says “yes” and phrase like “we can do that” probably “no”. A hotel usually serves food, no accommodations and if somebody offers you chocolate, expect something sweet, but not chocolate. Also juice not necessarily contains actual fruits. Winter is in October and summer in April. And there is eating with your fingers, but don’t you dare using the left hand!

Fortunately we are not on our own. FSL India Staff welcomed us in our first week in India and showed us the basics of Indian life. And now that I am used to my daily routine I get the chance to explore this fascinating country. Whether it is at work, learning about local agriculture and building methods, getting in touch with our Indian colleges and local community or on weekend trips to either historical and picture-perfect Indian places or very modern cities with big, air conditioned shopping malls.

Even though live is not always as comfortable as it is at home – just keep in mind the more than 30 °C all the time – I enjoy being here and I am glad to have nine more months to discover more details about this culture that is so much unlike my own.
