Enjoyed Hands-on Experience WC Volunteers at Kundapur

FSL-India organized a Hand in Land/Carnival work camp at Kundapura/Goa from 20th February to 5th March 2017. The theme of the work camp was Agriculture, Carnival, Culture and Kids.

KITCHEN GARDEN MAINTAINANCE(1) low

During the first week of the camp the volunteers planted fruit tree saplings, visited an organic farm and went on a Kundapura town tour. They also participated in a cleaning event and paper bag demonstration/ distribution at Cancona-Goa.

During the camp, the volunteers prepared beautiful pipe compost at 2 tent schools -Yedthadi Tent School and Baikadi Tent School, participated in vermicompost filtering for gardening use and initiated different skilled activities at the schools. At Yedthadi tent school, 15 children, 1 school staff and 1 German volunteer participated. At Baikadi tent school, 20 children, 1 teacher and 2 German volunteers took the initiative in these activities. Next the volunteers visited a cashew factory to learn about cashew nut processing and had lively interaction with the workers.

COMPOST FILTERING BIO MASS COLLECTION AND PUT IN NADEP COMPOST

They participated in fruit tree saplings maintenance activities by weeding and composting 10 saplings, preparation of Nadep compost, bio-mass collection and Jeevamrutha making.They visited Nammaboomi a local NGO, participated in henna culture activity and conducted country presentations of Italy and South Korea. The children were curious to know about other countries and asked many questions. A Bollywood dance was facilitated by Mr. Dinesha. The team visited Koteshwara Kotilingeswara temple, Koteshwara Lake, Hanuman statue and also visited an Indian family during the festival. They had lunch with an Indian family and participated in the Sowkoor car festival. They imbibed a wealth of knowledge about sustainable agriculture and during the community visit understood more about the Indian lifestyle. All the planned activities were completed by the team.(During the camp) Ms. Giulia, Ms. Hee Jae and team leader Mr. Dinesha, Mr. Manjunath B., Ms. Marta, Training Camp volunteers and staff participated in this work camp.

The volunteers enjoyed the hands-on experience as well as the interaction with the tent school children.  They enjoyed the work and gained understanding about different cultures. Both the tent schools appreciated the effort and contributions of the volunteers. On behalf of FSL-India, the coordinator thanked the volunteers for their great contribution.
