Hi all, greetings from FSL India’s Centre for Experiential Living (CEL), Kundapur!
On the 17th and 18th of July, a monthly get-together (GTG) took place in Yercaud, Tamil Nadu. Eight volunteers and four FSL-India staff members attended this GTG.
Participants visited Mundakabati village and planted saplings in a playground. They also interacted with the inhabitants. Volunteers also had a chance to have one-on-one talks with their coordinators.
April month’s long-term volunteer’s (LTV) get-together (GTG) took place on the 15th and 16th of the month in Mysore, Karnataka. Five international volunteers attended the GTG which was facilitated by four FSL-India staff members.
In addition to exchanging experiences and relaxing, participants also had one-on-one talks with their coordinators and attended a discussion with a host family on the topic of inter-cultural learning. Some of the points discussed were male preference in Indian families, the Indian marriage system and Indian festivals.
Once again, the month of April saw another long-term volunteers (LTV) get-together (GTG) in Kundapura. Attending the GTG on the 16th of April 2014 were seven LTVs and three of our Kundapura staff members. GTGs are not only a chance for participants to discuss and share their project experiences, but also an opportunity to explore a new place, as the location for each batch of LTVs varies monthly.
These participants had a chance to visit a Shiva Temple, the backwaters, a fishermen’s community called Kodi and more!
Another get-together (GTG) took place this month for a different batch of long-term volunteers (LTV). From the 13th of March to the 14th of March, five FSL-India staff members and nine LTVs got together in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu to talk about their experiences so far, have one on one conversations with their coordinators, and get motivated for their future work at their projects. The GTG attendees also had a chance to visit Anbalayam, an orphanage, where they conducted an educational painting activity.
Every month, each batch of our long-term volunteers (LTV) have a get-together (GTG) in order to take part in activities, talk about their experiences, and resolve any issues relating to their projects/ stay in India. This month, from the 13th of March to the 14th of March, ten LTVs and four FSL-India staff members met at Green Woods Resort in Senapur, Kundapura for their GTG. They also had a chance to visit one of our Home Based Project’s (HBP) tent schools in Senapur.
Another batch of long-term volunteers (LTV) came together in Bangalore for their monthly get-together (GTG). GTGs are a chance for volunteers and their coordinators to meet, exchange their experiences, have fun and relax. Attending the GTG were six FSL-India staff members and 11 international volunteers.
The GTG took place on the 13th and 14th of February, and volunteers took part in several different activities such as team-work and personal development activities. They also had the opportunity to attend a cultural performance by the children at Need Base India.
February month’s long-term volunteers get-together (GTG) took place at Kodachadri Hills, in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. Facilitating the GTG were five staff members of our Kundapura office. Attending were 11 international volunteers, hailing from five different countries.
Included in the various activities planned was hiking to Kodachadri peak, watching the sunset, discussions and energizers.
During GTGs, volunteers also get a chance to have one-on-one discussions with their coordinators which is a great way to share experiences and solve any issues.
January month’s long-term volunteer’s get-together (GTG) took place on the 16th and 17th at the beautiful Kawari Palm Grove Resort in Murudeshwar, North Canara District. Five members of our Kundapur staff team facilitated the GTG activities for 15 long-term international volunteers.
The activities included introductions, energisers, experience sharing, a Q & A period and team-building games. In sharing experiences, volunteers spoke about their challenges living in host families, culture shock and learning about India. Volunteers also got the opportunity to visit Murudeshwar Temple; a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
The monthly GTGs are a great way for volunteers and the FSL-India team to re-group for much needed down-time and conversations.
The LTV Program team of FSL-India separately organised July get-together for Kundapur and Bangalore regions. While Bangalore region organised the GTG at Mysore Sindhi Dharamshala in Mysore on 19th and 20th July 2012; Kundapur region organised the get together volunteers at Turtle Bay Beach Resort, Kundapur on 26th and 27th July 2012. Thirteen volunteers from Bangalore region and eleven volunteers from Kundapur Region participated in the get together. The objectives of the GTG are as follows:
- To share their experience, project work, progress result among the volunteers
- To find solution to the problems that they come across
- To share best practices among the volunteers
- To have one-to-one talk with the coordinator
- To get motivation for future work
Get-together primarily focussed on assessing the progress of the inter-cultural learning and project activities assigned to each volunteer. Project portrait, one-to-one talk with coordinators and skit presentation were the major input during the get together. Volunteers got umpteen number of opportunity to share their experience, project work, progress made and results achieved. It was also time to collectively find solutions to the problems that they have been encountering in the projects. They shared the best practices in voluntary services among themselves and got motivated for their future work.
In Mysore Mr. Ramesh Kumar, a professional Yoga Teacher and the founder of Mysore Academy of Yoga conducted one hour of Yoga session for volunteers. The volunteers were thrilled to learn fifteen different Yoga Postures in one day which they are determined to practice regularly.
During one-to one talk with the respective coordinators volunteers discussed on the challenges they encountered in the projects. Volunteers enjoyed themselves and had lots of fun games during get together.
Long term volunteers get together is FSL India’s one of the regular monthly event. In this month which was jointly organised with the Quarterly evaluation for BMZ volunteers. Simha Farms was enriched with colorful faces for this two days special event on 10th June till 12th of June. Participants are Daya, Ravichandra, Aravind, Camille, Austin, Arjen, Jessica, Daniel, Eva, Julie, Laura, Stefan, Elizabeth, Sebastian, Lisa, Roman & Elodie.
