FSL India along with our volunteers brought changes to Heskattur – Kundapura Region Intercultural Event at Heskattur Primary Government School

FSL India’s Kundapura Region organised a cultural event at Heskattur Primary Government School. A plan was put in place well in advance to organise this cultural event, and the roles and responsibilities were shared to make it successful. So, for this programme, LTV Kundapura invited 35 of our volunteers from Udupi and Mangalore zones.

In the morning, all the volunteers were greeted and received with a traditional welcoming ceremony. They also enjoyed a really nice breakfast at the school and got to talk to all the teachers, children, parents and other guests which they increasingly did over the span of the whole day. After 2 short dance performances by the students of Heskattur and some of the volunteers, a lot of speeches and honours followed. Our volunteers were thanked a lot for their work and for coming to the school to take part in the intercultural event, which began shortly after.

All the volunteers were split into 4 groups with a respective activity. One team made masks, another planted trees at a nearby property, and two others painted the walls and toilets. After finishing everything, it was lunchtime and they had some more delicious food at the school. Next parents, children, teachers and volunteers all joined together for a big round of questions about various, mostly cultural topics.

Not only were our volunteers asked many interesting questions, but they, as well, learned a lot from this session through an exciting dialogue which went both ways. Once every last question was cleared up, the volunteers presented 2 countries, i.e. Sweden and Germany, with the help of a big poster. The day ended in more dance performances not only by the volunteers, but also some of the kids, and of course, a tea break right before the departure of all the volunteers.

FSL India’s LTV team conveyed their gratitude and special appreciation to all the staff, children and SDMC members of Heskattur School, Panchayat members, Forest Department and Police Department of Kundapura, as well as the Press and Media, whose coverage made our cultural event so successful. At the end of the day, our team gave each other a pat on the back for a job well done.
