I am living in a Ladies Hostel in Pondicherry, together with 3 other German volunteers. My first working place was the Tulir Uthavi Karam Foundation but some weeks ago I changed it to the Sri Annai Raani Convent Higher Secondary School in Katterikuppam (a small village 1 hour away from lovely Pondy). El-Shaddai is a Children’s Home outside of Chennai. Here we, Svenja and Julia, work for 11 months as volunteers, with 34 children. Now, the time is already half gone and we had a great time till now. In the month of February 2020, FSL India’s LTV Bangalore region organised a Midterm Evaluation (MTE) for our Pondicherry, Bangalore, Mysore and Kanchipuram Long Term Volunteers at Pondicherry. The event took place between 26th-28th February 2020, at Pondicherry. In Pondicherry, there were around 22 volunteers from AFS, GRC and IJGD Germany who took part in the evaluation. We are running into our 4th year of successful hosting of international volunteers. The relationship between FSL India, our project coordinators and international volunteers has improved over innovations, mutual respect and shared responsibilities. Our journey began in a very traditional family. Our host parents, our 5 host brothers and the rest of the family made us feel at home there very quickly. Through them, we learned about Indian culture and we soon became a part of their family. During the weeks, we are working in a big animal shelter with dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, sheep, donkeys, birds and pigs. On 22nd January 2020, FSL-India Mysore’s Coordinator organised a Cultural Event (CE) for our regular LTV volunteers. Every month, we organise a cultural event for our regular volunteers and we take them to any cultural and historical places which are located in and around Mysore.
