ITS NOT JUST VOLUNTEERING BUT A BUCKET LIST!- Sandeep

My journey to accomplish one of my bucket lists began when Rahul and Julien from FSL interviewed me for training and volunteering in Le Creneau, Solidarites Jeunnesses, France. I was present for the interview as if I was going to attend a board-meeting whereas the interviewers were dressed casually. This changed my perspective and made me understand that volunteering is serious work being casual. The interview was fun and went on pretty well.

“Hi! We have to repair the water tap, flatten the schoolyard, paint the walls and give some classes to the students!” These are the first words I heard from our Korean team leader as I arrived in Sengadu Primary school in the morning of 19th January. The next question was: “Have you ever done manual work before?” My honest answer: “No.”

As I planned to conduct PFP and this is my 3rd session in Jathana School. The objective of this activity is to know about Mother Nature. The session was planned for 1.30 hours. Children really enjoyed participating in the activity. We used energizers and communication methods for this activity.

The camp theme focused on Sustainable Agriculture/Yoga/Kids.There were total of 5 volunteers with 4 Koreans and 1 French.The main objective was to give an exposure to the volunteers about the sustainable agriculture activities at our training Centre at Shetrakatte, Kundpura.Meanwhile the volunteers learned about Yoga and other cultural aspects of India.They also took part in activities in school based on Plastic and Waste Management.

On 20th January FSL India Kundapura organized YDP and FSL promotional activity for Bhandarkars college at Kundapura. Mr. Sathya Narayan lecturer from college, welcomed FSL staff ,volunteers and introduced  all staff also explained us about college activities.

My experience in Chennai

My experience in Chennai

During the heavy rains in Chennai, many volunteers went to Bangalore to work or just stay safely. I was one of them. I stayed there for one week, waiting for the situation to get better in my host family and project.

As a youth day celebration, we organized a meeting with the community in Mavinakatte school  where we gave information about our long term volunteering program and its use for the community and explained about the different themes where our Long term volunteers are working.

This time we organized Play For Peace (PFP) session in Jathana Higher Primary School, Padumarnadu, Karkala. The objective of this session was to take responsibility in save the earth from plastic. The session was planned for 1.30 hours. Children really enjoyed participating. We used energizers and communication methods in this activity.
