FSL-WC-615 – Kundapur Camp
FSL-India organized Hand in Land/Yoga/Kids work camp at Kundapura from 6th-11th March 2017. The theme of the work camp was Agriculture, Yoga, Culture & Kids.
During the camp, the volunteers participated in transplanting, weeding and mulching of vegetable plants in the kitchen garden. They also visited Namma Bhoomi, went on a Kundapura town tour, conducted Japanese Origami and Kendoma games for school kids and celebrated International Women’s Day at the Training Centre, Kundapura
During the camp, the volunteers conducted Japanese activities as well as different skilled activities for the kids at Koodlu Kanyana, the local govt. lower primary school. Totally 32 kids, 3 school staff and 3 German volunteers took the initiative in this program. The other activities conducted were preparation of vermicompost for use in kitchen gardening, planting of pineapple and jasmine plants, fruit plant maintenance activities comprising of weeding and composting 24 plants, preparation of Nadef compost, bio-mass collection, visit to Namma Bhoomi, a local NGO and henna cultural activity.
The volunteers conducted a country presentation on Japan and the children were curious to know about other countries. A Bollywood dance was facilitated by Dinesha. Next, the volunteers visited Koteshwara Kotilingeswara temple, Koteshwara Lake and the Hanuman statue. The volunteers also visited an Indian family during the festival, had dinner with them and participated in the local community’s Holi dance.The volunteers were able to enhance their knowledge about sustainable agriculture and during the community visit they learned more about the Indian lifestyle. All the planned activities were completed with excellent team work – Chigusa, team leader Dinesha, Manjunath B, Marta, the Training Centre volunteers and also the staff participated in this work camp.
The volunteers enjoyed having hands-on experience and the interaction with the Koodlu Kanyana schoolchildren. They enjoyed the work and understood about the different cultures. Koodlu Kanyana School appreciated the efforts and contributions of the volunteers. On behalf of FSL-India, the coordinator thanked the volunteers for their valuable contributions.
