The Work Camp primarily focused on creating awareness to the general public, fishermen community and to the schools about the importance of turtles in the bio-diversity. The volunteers involved in building Turtle Information Centre (TIC) huts along the beach with the help of local and fishermen community. Volunteers were engaged in activities with children and local community with the help of the team leader to promote awareness on Environment and conservation of Sea Turtles – through Beach walks, Puppet shows, Mural Paintings etc.

During the work camp volunteers could build a Turtle information center at Maravanthe village in front of Mr. Dasi’s house who is a main contact person for the sea turtle conservation project. They were able to draw two Murals at Maravanthe village – one at the fishermen road and one in the main bus station of Maravanthe village on the national highway. Apart from the TIC and mural painting, volunteers performed a puppet show for the fisher community in KodiKanyana village explaining threats to the sea turtles, eggs and their hatchings.

It was a nice and new experience for all the volunteers who participated. Some suggested for local volunteer’s participation in the winter camp. All the targets have been reached and volunteers were able to give awareness to some fishermen who showed lot of interest with the topic of sea turtle conservation.
