FSL-India’s Summer Camp for Tent School Children

FSL-India’s Summer Camp for Tent School Children

From the 29th of April to the 2nd of May 2019,  FSL-India‘s volunters and the Tent School teachers organised a summer camp at Baikady’s Tent School, for 38 children. The objective of the summer camp is to grant the opportunity for all the young children of the tent area, to play different games and to have fun altogether.

Sharavathi, Shalini our teachers, Jesus and Felix our volunteers worked well as a team, planning a varied schedule with many games and activities, which adapted quickly to the childrens‘ necessities and learnings.

The first day, the children played the game “Capture the Flag“, then, in 4 groups they created their own individual posters, in order to build up an uniting feeling of togetherness inside the different teams. Next, the four teams competed in simple games in order to gain relevant points, like fruit guessing, bag race and lemon-and-spoon race – 3 well-known games which everybody liked a lot.

Afterwards, the children enjoyed the “Ticking Time Bomb“, another game in which one has to find a place to sit when the music stops. Moreover, a paper craft competition for who would build the highest tower out of pieces of paper was also held.

On the fourth day of the summer camp project, FSL-India’s volunteers and the teachers organised the annual traditional trip to Murudeshwara. A private bus was booked and came to pick up the children at Baikady.

When the bus arrived at Murudeshwara, the children could visit the big statue of Shiva and a temple nearby, where all had lunch together. Everybody enjoyed the food a lot and then they moved on to a relaxing park some kilometres north of Murudeshwara, where everyone enjoyed the rest of the day. Indeed, the park contained a lovely play ground for the children.

The kids enjoyed the trip very much and they also especially loved going out of the tent area with the FSL-India volunteers and the teachers, without the presence of the parents.
