In the morning, the FSL-India group started their travel from the meeting point to Attur church. It is a Roman Catholic church in Karkala. It came into existence in 1759 and has a history of miracles. The group spent some time in church. After lunch, the FSL-India group visited a Hindu family. The volunteers had a lively interaction with the family. The family offered coffee and snacks to the volunteers. In the evening, the FSL –India group visited the Bahubali statue and Jain’s Basadi in Karkala. The Bahubali statue is carved from a single piece of rock and it is a free-standing statue. The Bahubali statue was at the top of the mountain and the volunteers enjoyed the beautiful view of Karkala from the top. After the visit, the volunteers travelled back to Mangalore, where everybody could enjoy the rest of the day with the host family.

Feedback from the volunteers

  • A good day that allowed me to discover Karkala and the sight view that I probably wouldn’t have discovered by myself. It was a surprise to see so many Christian people. A good day, ended by a sad rain.
  • The cultural program in Karkala was really nice and informative. I was very happy to visit an Indian family to experience more of the Indian lifestyle, since I stay in an ashram. It was really beautiful nature, statue and temples. Karkala is really beautiful.
