The mix of 20, hailing from Germany, Spain and France will be working in various projects ranging from environment-related initiatives such as sea turtle conservation to educating children of migrant families in \u2018tent schools\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As with all of our long-term volunteers, their first week began with an orientation on India and Indian culture. This \u2018orientation week\u2019 is designed to address various aspects of volunteering in India and to provide contextual relevance to the work they will be doing in the months to come. This is particularly important as each volunteer will live with a local family that has agreed to host him or her and will encounter many cultural differences in their day-to-day lives. Topics such as \u2018managing expectations and fears\u2019, Indian lifestyle, Indian pedagogy etc. help prepare them for the months to come. At FSL India, we place special importance on safety, and volunteers are provided with guidelines to ensure their wellbeing.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6629\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6629\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/September_LTV2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6629 \" alt=\"September_LTV2\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/September_LTV2-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6629\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An important part of the orientation: sharing experiences and ideas, reflecting on expectations and challenges, and preparing for the months ahead.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">September\u2019s orientation took place in Kundapur, a growing township in Udupi District of the southern Indian state of Karnataka, where FSL India has one of its offices.
