{"id":620,"date":"2010-03-30T15:53:47","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T10:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/?p=620"},"modified":"2010-03-30T15:53:47","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T10:23:47","slug":"workshop-for-sustainable-fisheries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/workshop-for-sustainable-fisheries\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop for \u201cSustainable Fisheries\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <\/strong><em>&#8230;organized by <strong>Karnataka Forest Department Mangalore circle and Western Ghat Task Force, Government of Karnataka.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-621\" title=\"Workshop for &quot;Sustainable Fisheries&quot;\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"432\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>FSL India\u00a0 was invited by\u00a0 the Forest Department of\u00a0 Mangalore to give a talk about the work of NGOs for sea turtle protection and problems caused by the modern fishing\u00a0 methods to the sea turtle population.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-622\" title=\"Daya on Seaturtles\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/P1090323-s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/>Participants were officers of the\u00a0 Forest Department, members of Western Ghat Task Force, the NGO ATREE, many fishermen leaders, Professors from Central Marine fisheries Regional Institute (CMFRI) etc. For FSL and the sea turtle project it was very important to join this meeting to get new contact with\u00a0 other representatives and to introduce our work and aims.<\/p>\n<p>The content of our presentation was threats to Sea Turtle population, extinction of Leather backs, and use of turtle excluder devices for the nets used by deep sea boats in our area.\u00a0 Other speakers in their presentation highlighted the problems with\u00a0 ground water, modern fisheries methods, water conservations and impact of the industrialization. Many suggestions were handed over to the representatives of the state government to preserve bio-diversity of the Mangalore region which is in\u00a0 top position among the highest polluting cities of the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;organized by Karnataka Forest Department Mangalore circle and Western Ghat Task Force, Government of Karnataka.
