I set off with Madhuri, and picked up Madhumathi (FSL India\u2019s facilitators at Bangalore) along the way. My first impression when I walked into the classroom was a sea of smiling faces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00120-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18722\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00144-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18734\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00117-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18720\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The children were excited to see me (a new face always generates interest) and a babel of voices broke out. \u201cNamaste, Madam\u201d, \u201cGood morning, Madam\u201d, \u201cWhat\u2019s your name, Madam?&nbsp; I replied to all their queries with an answering smile and thought to myself that this was going to be a fun time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00143-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18733\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00109-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18714\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00121-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18723\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a \u2018Project Day\u2019, where the children had to impress on\nthe public the evils of using plastic. They also had to convince them to\nsubstitute paper bags for plastic ones. To this end, they had made paper bags\nout of newspaper and planned to distribute them amongst the many shops around\nthe school. The children were divided into 3 teams with 3 team leaders, of\nwhich I was one. We marched off, full of zeal, convinced that we were going to\nchange the world in no time at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00127-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18726\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2020-01-31-at-12.47.16-PM-5-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18744\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00124-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18725\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A fruit vendor, several shopkeepers and passersby were our\nwilling audiences. They smiled indulgently, listened to the children\u2019s\nimpassioned speeches on protecting the environment and accepted the paper bags\nwith a solemn promise to use them in lieu of plastic ones. Of course, we got\nthe sceptical ones, as well, who didn\u2019t think twice about dampening the\nchildren\u2019s spirits with negative statements. Luckily, children are resilient,\nso they bounced back and moved on to the next receptive audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00131-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18728\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2020-01-29-at-6.02.01-PM-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18740\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00132-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18729\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After tramping around the area for 30 minutes and exhausting our stash of home-made paper bags, we decided to call it a day and marched back to school. I must say, my little team of 6 girls and boys were very well behaved and in fact, took good care of me so that I didn\u2019t get run over by the crazy traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2020-01-31-at-12.47.16-PM-2-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18741\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/WhatsApp-Image-2020-01-31-at-12.47.16-PM-8-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18746\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/DSC00128-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18727\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next was the photo shoot, with everyone clamouring to have their photographs taken by the professional photographer &#8230;myself!
