Previously,\nFSL-India has worked with the school through our Long Term Volunteering (LTV)\nprogram and Hyundai\u2019s Happy Move program. These interventions have resulted in the\nrenovation of classrooms, construction of toilets, setting up kitchen gardens,\ntree plantation drives etc., to improve the school environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/100th-Monkey-Blog-Sandhiya-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16045\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I,\nSandhiya facilitated the 100<sup>th<\/sup> Monkey Pilot phase sessions at\nPennalur School for 7-8<sup>th<\/sup> Grade students. Initially, the students\nwere very hesitant to open up or mingle with each other. This changed through\nplay! The students were very much interested to learn new things. They were\nmore comfortable with each other. New friendships were formed, more positive\ncommunication and fondness extended beyond their gender. Their eagerness and\nexcitement towards the activities and to engage with each other grew with each\nsession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/100th-Monkey-Blog-Sandhiya-6-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16049\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During\nthe Pilot Phase sessions, the students got several opportunities to express\nthemselves, be creative, reflect on themselves and showcase their talents. The\nproject \u2013 \u201cMy Perfect World\u201d encouraged them to share their voices towards\nsociety and their idea of what a perfect world would look like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/100th-Monkey-Blog-Sandhiya-5-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16048\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nthe short span of 3 months, I conducted 8 weekly sessions of the Pilot Phase, and\nI\u2019m convinced about the power of using play to develop self-awareness and active\ncitizenship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/100th-Monkey-Blog-Sandhiya-3-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16046\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nstudents are all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed about the next intervention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/100th-Monkey-Blog-Sandhiya-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16044\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pennalur Government Middle School in Kancheepuram district was chosen as one of the schools to conduct the Pilot Phase of 100th Monkey.
