Dharamshala, a municipal corporation city in the\nKangra valley, is the winter capital of Himachal Pradesh. Apart from being the\nhome of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama and a considerable Tibetan\npopulation, it has many beautiful tea gardens. Internationally known for Kangra\ngreen tea, Dharamshala produces a wide variety of teas including black tea,\ngreen tea, oolong tea and white tea. Masala chai and the popular Kashmiri Kahwa\ntea are also available here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In FSL-India\u2019s Work Camp 829, we had 4\nInternational volunteers from different nationalities, i.e. Italy, France and\nthe US. The camp ran for 2 weeks at Dharamshala, from 4th-17th March 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Our volunteers actively took part in various\nactivities in the Dharamkot Government\nPrimary School, i.e. a Yoga session every morning at the home base\naccommodation, the renovation of classrooms, art and craft with children,\nschool wall and educational paintings, cleaning the school grounds and a waterfall\nclean up drive with a local NGO. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

As part of FSL-India\u2019s intercultural exchange\nprogram, in the 2-week camp, every afternoon our volunteers visited local cultural\nplaces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Our volunteers spread awareness to the public with\na campaign called \u2018Keep Your City Clean\u2019 by cleaning the Bhagsu waterfall with a\nlocal NGO called Waste Warriors. The volunteers were also involved in other\nactivities like creating awareness about nature, and also gardening with the children\nat the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The\nvolunteers had the opportunity to interact with Tibetan monks. They also took\npart in a Tibetan cooking session. Although the volunteers were busy doing all\nof these activities, they had just enough spare time at the end of their stay\nto take part in a sightseeing excursion to a Hindu temple, Bhagsu waterfalls,\nDalai Lama Temple, Tse chok Ling monastery, Narbulingka Institute, Central\nTibetan Library and Parliament, the Tibet Museum, and the Tibetan Children\u2019s\nVillage Community.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall,\nthe volunteers had a very good time during this camp and all their expectations\nwere met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
