{"id":15654,"date":"2019-05-04T11:32:35","date_gmt":"2019-05-04T06:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/?p=15654"},"modified":"2019-05-04T11:32:36","modified_gmt":"2019-05-04T06:02:36","slug":"changing-society-one-step-at-a-time-at-sristi-village-peer-poremba-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/changing-society-one-step-at-a-time-at-sristi-village-peer-poremba-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing society one step at a time at SRISTI village &#8211; Peer Poremba, Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My name is Peer, I am from Germany and\ncurrently working in Sristi village as a 11-months volunteer with the &#8220;Weltw\u00e4rts&#8221;program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-11-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15665\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I am living with my friend and co-long term\nvolunteer Bjoern and other volunteers together in the so- called &#8220;Orange House&#8221;,\nnot only experiencing the Indian culture, but many others from all around the\nworld. It is amazing to get to know so many people from different continents, cooking\ntogether and playing games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-7-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15661\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our accommodation is just 4 kms from Sristi, so\nit is nice and relaxing to walk there during sunrise\/sunset and it is a great\nway to start\/end the day. Often, in the evening, I also help deliver the milk,\ndrink a coffee with one of the staff and talk about all kinds of things. The\nmoment you enter Sristi, you feel this amazing vibe of positive energy starting\nfrom Rajesh (one member) sprinting towards you, so he can be the first to hug\nyou and carry your bag. There are a lot of very sweet members such as Arun, who\nis in charge of filling up everyone&#8217;s tea cup and refilling water bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-9-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15663\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sristi\u2019s mission is to integrate mentally\ndisabled people into the mainstream society by giving them a place to live,\nlearn basic live skills and learn how to do eco-friendly farming on the\nsurrounding land. It is a long way to go till we reached our goal of being\nself-sustaining, however it is growing exponentially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-10-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15664\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The even more important part is seeing how the\nmember&#8217;s personality changes during the time. From being introverted and not speaking\nat all, to having a full-on dance session with me and singing so loudly I can&#8217;t\nsleep after lunch, is quite an amazing change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-6-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15660\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>My job is mainly is to build up and take care\nof a 1 acre, 5-layer model agro forest, following Subhash Palekar\u2019s Natural\nFarming philosophy. We even had the chance to attend 2 training programs &#8211; one\nwas the 9-day training program Subhash Palekar had at Trichy, the other one was\nat a nearby farm. In addition, I try to help in as many ways as possible and\ninitiate own projects as well. I couldn&#8217;t be luckier to be a volunteer here\nbecause your opinion is very valued, and you are able to work in sub-projects\nthat fit your interests. Being there makes you want to contribute as much as\npossible, knowing everything you do is helping Sristi come closer to achieving\ntheir goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-3-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15657\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is amazing how much I have learned here. On\nthe one hand about agro-forestry, and sustainable agriculture, which has\nimpacted and motivated me to try out such models in Germany, as well and, on\nthe other hand, how important it is to have an inclusive and peaceful society.\nAll the members deep down have such a good heart and try to contribute as much\nas possible in their range of possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Blog-Peer-March-2019-2-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15656\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The founder, Karthik is one of the nicest and\nfriendliest people I have ever met. He and his vision are incredibly inspiring\nand motivate me to maybe start my own project at some point, but definitely to\ncome back here after some time to see what has all changed and visit my friends\nI made at Sristi.
