During the morning of 19th<\/sup> of\nFebruary, FSL-India implemented 2 banana circles at Mavinakatte Government\nPrimary School. This task was carried out by some of FSL-India\u2019s volunteers – Jan,\nFlorian, Anna and Carlota, as well as Manjesh and Manju \u2013 FSL-India\u2019s staff.\nThe team could count on the help and support of the school staff, as well as\nthe huge involvement of some students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choice to implement a banana circle is because it follows a permaculture design. Permaculture is based on 3 main principles, which are earth care, people\u2019s care and fair share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In relation to this, the banana circle uses waste water that otherwise would just evaporate \u2013related with the \u201cearth care\u201d principle. Secondly, multiple crops can be grown inside it because it creates a sort of microclimate, and they are all organic because no chemicals are used \u2013 related to \u201cpeople\u2019s care\u201d principle. Finally, there will be free bananas for the schoolchildren \u2013 related with the \u201cfair share\u201d principle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the whole morning, everyone worked hard\ndigging holes, cutting branches, planting the bananas and a papaya tree as\nwell, and making a watering system. Moreover, to protect them from the animals,\na whole fence was built up around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a very nice morning, and the students enjoyed being part of the process, while learning and participating hand in hand with the FSL-India staff and volunteers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
