GHNP is a relatively recent addition to a network of protected&nbsp;areas in northern India and adjacent countries, which increasingly provide protection to the Himalayas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/nature1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15052\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/nature1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/nature1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/nature1-203x270.jpg 203w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/nature1.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Himalayas, as a whole,&nbsp;are listed as one of Conservation International\u2019s 34 major biodiversity hotspots. The Himalayan Hotspot contains not only the world\u2019s highest mountains and associated alpine ecosystems&nbsp;but also large expanses of lower-elevation temperate and subtropical forests and grasslands. It spans 3,000 km, from east to west, and 300&nbsp;kms&nbsp;to 500&nbsp;kms&nbsp;from north to south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-03-13-44-11-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15033\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-03-13-44-11-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-03-13-44-11-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-03-13-44-11-203x270.jpg 203w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-03-13-44-11.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>GHNP was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Site\nstatus in 2014, in recognition of its outstanding contribution towards\nbiodiversity conservation. The park protects over 1,000 plant species,\nincluding many medicinal herbs, 31 species of mammals and 209 species of birds,\nas well as amphibians, reptiles and insects. 4 of GHNP\u2019s species of mammals and\n3 of its species of birds are globally threatened; including the musk deer and\nthe western Tragopan, locally known as a Jujurana and considered as the state\nbird of Himachal Pradesh. It is a colorful repository of the endemic flora and\nfauna of the region, a paradise of bird lovers and and populated by engaged\ncommunities of the mountain villages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/village-visit-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15059\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/village-visit-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/village-visit-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/village-visit-203x270.jpg 203w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/village-visit.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>FSL-India organized the first WHV International work camp \u2018Rhythms of the Wild\u2019 after UNESCO recognized as GHNP as natural heritage site. The month of August and the beginning of September is the best time visit this western Himalayas landscape, because it is the end of the monsoon, with not much rain, It is full of greenery in the mountains, at the beginning of autumn, so volunteers had a wonderful time during the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-05-11-29-48-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15036\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-05-11-29-48-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-05-11-29-48-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-05-11-29-48-203x270.jpg 203w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-05-11-29-48.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The volunteers were involved in various activities like biodiversity conservation and natural resource management with park officials like tree plantation, nursery gardening work, medicinal herbs collection and plantation in mountains range, mural painting work at the village public walls and also at the local school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-06-12-26-34-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15043\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-06-12-26-34-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-06-12-26-34-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-06-12-26-34-203x270.jpg 203w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-09-06-12-26-34.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the project, they had a presentation\nabout GHNP with the park officials and got to know more about the park and the\nmountain livelihoods, helping teachers in teaching activities about\nEnvironmental presentation, waste management. Natural heritage importance,\nforestry ecology systems nearly 400 school children benefited from this\nactivity. FSL-India\u2019s volunteers, along with 60 \u201cGovt. senior secondary model\nschool Sainj students and NSS candidates participated on nature conservation\nclean up and a tree plantation campaign in Sainj valley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-08-30-10-37-17-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15019\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-08-30-10-37-17-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-08-30-10-37-17-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-08-30-10-37-17-203x270.jpg 203w, https:\/\/fsl-india.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/2017-08-30-10-37-17.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During the second week, the volunteers visited different eco villages in the mountains, had meaningful interaction with woman self help groups on discussions about natural heritage site importance and gave a presentation about an ecological life style conservation along with the woman\u2019s group at the village. It is famous for wooden carvings, &nbsp;Nepali style pagoda structural temples.
